Camp Discovery

Paris Feltner and Jessica Robinson, two energetic XP girls, had the experience to attend Camp Dermadillo in Burton, Texas. This is a camp sponsored by the American Academy of Dermatology for young people with all kinds of skin conditions. The camp offers a summer camping experience unlike any the girls had ever had before.

Every year, the AAD sponsors a week of fishing, boating, swimming, water skiing, arts and crafts, and just plain fun. Under the expert care of dermatologists and nurses, the campers have the chance to share, play, and relax together. Many of the counselors have serious skin conditions as well, and can provide support and advice to campers.

Jessica’s big sister, Lisa Robinson got to be a counselor this past summer. She was very inspired by both the camp and the kids there. One evening while eating cotton candy and having fun at the outdoor carnival, Paris declared to Lisa that this was the best day of her life!

There is no fee for camp. Full scholarships, including transportation are provided by the American Academy of dermatology through generous donations. Please view the American Academy of Dermatology website at www.aad.org to see the locations of the camps (the Texas Camp Dermadillo is just one of the AAD camps) or go directly to www.campdiscovery.org. Campers must be between 8 and 16 years old. To be a volunteer you must be 18 years or older. If you are interested in one of the camps, you may contact jmueller@aad.org or 847-240-1737, or contact your dermatologist.
