Michele Milota, Sacramento, CA-Executive Director – After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in information and communication studies from Chico State University in 1989, Michele worked in the sales, television and education field. She brings passion, creativity, boundless energy, and many contacts to her work for the XP. Michele is the mother of four children, one has XP.
Todd Feltner, Washington, UT-Chariman of the Board and Treasurer – Todd is a certified public accountant with expertise in business services and taxation with an emphasis of non-profit sector. He has worked in the industry for 9 years. Todd received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in accounting from Southern Utah University. He is the father of five children and two of his children have XP.
Jennifer Feltner, Washington, UT-Secretary – Jennifer owns her own dance studio and has over 150 students enrolled. She also has a degree in cosmetology. She is an active leader in her community and church and she is a mother of five children, two of whom have XP.
Kim Beardslee, Blodgett, MO-Kim is a member of the Protective Services Department at Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. She received her bachelor’s of science degree in Criminal Justice from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo. She worked several years for the Bureau of Prisons before returning home to southeast Missouri. Kim’s daughter has XP.
Gail Behrndt, Houston, TX-Gail had worked in the customer service industry for 21 years before taking an early retirement. She is now focusing her time on her family and working with XP Family Support Group in many capacities including fundraising and correspondence with supporters. She is the mother of two children, one of whom has XP.
Rich Bricker, Eaton, OH – Rich worked for 35 years in public education as both a teacher and school administrator, retiring in 2007 as a local superintendent. He earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Specialist Degrees from the University of Toledo, and his Doctorate from the University of Sarasota, Florida. Rich presently is employed seasonally as a Tax Associate for H&R Block. One of Rich’s two daughters has XP.
Connie Dyer, Sacramento, CA-Connie has worked as a nursing assistant in the Pediatrics Department at Mercy San Juan Hospital for the last 9 years. She has worked for the Director of Anesthesia at Shriner’s Hospital for 5 years, and volunteered for Make a Wish as a Spanish interpreter for several years. Connie has been actively involved in raising money to support XP Family Support Group.
Sarah Madden, El Dorado, KS – Sarah is the Office Manager and Accountant for Butler Rural Electric Cooperative. She received her bachelor’s of science degree in Accounting from Emporia State University. She is the treasurer for the First Christian Church in El Dorado. She is the mother of two children, one of whom has XP
Alan Jakovac, Milton, ON—Alan worked in public relations for more than 13 years working for international and boutique public relations agencies. More recently Alan has focussed on family life while working as a public relations consultant. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Public Relations from Humber College in Toronto, Ontario. Alan is the father of two children, one of whom has XP.
Dr. Bari Cunningham, San Diego, CA-Dr. Cunningham is an internationally recognized pediatric dermatologist with a special interest in xeroderma pigmentosum. She has treated over a dozen patients with XP during her career and her expertise in XP has led her to a remote village in Guatemala where XP is endemic . She served as the first US physician to treat children with XP when she led two humanitarian medical missions to this village where life saving reconstructive skin cancer surgeries were successfully performed. Along with the award winning documentarian Brian Knappenberger, she is actively producing a film chronicaling the life of a Guatemalan child with XP.
Dr Cunningham is the co-founder of Comprehensive Dermatology Group, San Diego’s only private practice with board certified adult and pediatric dermatologists. Dr Cunningham is one of a handful of pediatric dermatologists nationwide with expertise in the surgical and laser treatment of all types of birthmarks and skin tumors.
Dr. Ijaz Jamall, President and Principal Scientist with Risk-Based Decisions, Inc. He has worked on the development and implementation of quantitative risk assessment methodologies for use in drug development and evaluation and in all aspects of clinical and biochemical toxicology. Dr. Jamall’s research interests include identifying a then unknown autosomal recessive skin disease, Acrodermatitis enteropathica, in 1974 and treating patients with this disease successfully for over 40 years with complete remission. Dr. Jamall works on chronic diseases where the underlying mechanisms include chronic inflammation, immunological dysfunctions, and reactive oxygen species. He obtained his B.S. in Toxicology from St. John’s University in New York and his Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He has been certified by the American Board of Toxicology since 1988. Dr. Jamall has been recognized as one of the most outstanding reviewers by the Annals of Internal Medicine for 2008 and 2009. He serves as a referee for numerous clinical and scientific journals. Dr. Jamall has over 108 scientific publications and abstracts. In January 2007, Dr. Jamall was appointed Research Director (a pro bono position) for the Xeroderma Pigmentosum Family Support Group, a position that has been renewed through 2013. Dr. Jamall is committed to helping XP patients and their families achieve both short and long term objectives that will better their lives and in helping families interact with their physicians. As of 2009, he has undertaken a study to understand the role of Vitamin D in preventing or slowing the growth of UV-induced skin cancers in XP-C patients, and in identifying measures that can help XP-A and XP-D patients with neurological deficits.
